Project Case Study

INTRODUCTION
SIAP Acoustics was invited to fine-tune our Acoustic Enhancement System at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, specifically in the renowned Grand Theater, one of Seoul’s most prestigious venues. With a capacity of 3,022 seats and a colossal 35,000 cubic meter space, the Sejong Grand Theater is home to world-class performances, including those by celebrated orchestras like the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, and London Symphony Orchestra. These orchestras, along with many others, regularly perform in this venue, solidifying its status as a cultural landmark.

The theater also houses a majestic pipe organ with nearly 8,100 pipes, adding a unique dimension to its acoustic needs. In this remarkable space, SIAP Acoustics integrated its cutting-edge technology to enhance the acoustics for every performance, whether amplified or unamplified.

CHALLENGE
Given the immense size of the theater and its varied performance needs, ensuring versatile and high-quality acoustics across different events was a significant challenge. The theater required an acoustic system capable of enhancing both amplified and unamplified performances, from operas to symphonic concerts, and including organ recitals.

THE RESULT

SIAP’s Acoustic Enhancement System was successfully integrated into the Sejong Grand Theater, providing enhanced acoustic versatility. The theater now benefits from the ability to select from multiple presets designed for various performances, including opera, organ recitals, and symphonic music. The system’s advanced features, including the ability to increase the reverberation time (RT) up to 3 seconds for unamplified performances, have significantly improved the overall sound quality.

Our collaboration with the Sejong Cultural Center team, including Mr. Kim Soohyun and Ms. Hyowon Lee, was highly productive, and their valuable feedback will help guide future system developments. You can read more on our linkedin article and on the Sejong Perfoming Arts Center website.

What Our Client Says

“It’s amazing how the SIAP system can change the impression of where you are. From standing in a dry room, you turn on the SIAP system and suddenly find yourself in a comfortably sounding room, or even a large church! The SIAP system makes our venue very flexible and provides opportunities that would be impossible or difficult to achieve without major physical changes to the room.”
